Mattel SDCC 2021 Exclusive – Masters of the Universe Revelation Scareglow Figure Review

This year for San Diego Comic-Con 2021, Mattel is offering a Masters of the Universe Revelation Scareglow figure that is inspired from the Netflix series. The figure joins their already impressive line-up and will be available to purchase at Mattel Creations starting July 22nd, 2021 at 12 PM EST. Scareglow includes the Scythe of Doom, a wired cape, a sword and interchangeable hands.

Thank you to Mattel and the Masters of the Universe team for providing their Masters of the Universe Revelation Scareglow Figure for review.

Availability: July 2021 – San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive

Scareglow comes in a brown mailer box, with artwork of him on both sides. Inside the mailer is packaging that resembles a book, with nicely done details such as skulls around the edges and other artwork, such as pages around the sides, and details on the cover and back. There is a slip cover that keeps it closed, and once opened, you see that the slipcover was covering the front and back of Scareglow inside the box. The first two front parts of the cover can be opened, to reveal Scareglow inside. Scareglow is inside a cave themed packaging from the inside, with working LED lights that make him glow. He is securely packaged in a plastic tray along with his accessories, and can be easily removed as there are no twist ties or anything holding him or the accessories in place. The LED Lights work by first removing the plastic tab on the bottom of the packaging, then pressing the button on the bottom right hand side, which activates it.

Scareglow makes his debut for the first-time as an online exclusive since Masters of the Universe Classics, and was originally planned to be sold at San Diego Comic-Con. The figure is part of the 7″ scale Masters of the Universe Revelation Masterverse line, and is given a new outfit and design compared to what we’ve seen before. He also includes some shared parts with He-Man and Skeletor, such as the torso, arms and legs. Most of the skin tone is black with neon green deco that is painted to resemble skeleton bones, which we’ve seen this deco design on existing Scareglow figures. This figure however has the new neon green deco, which also makes it look like he’s always glowing. The head is the only part of the body that can glow, and is given a black wash to show the sculpted details. The outfit is mostly in dark purple, with a metallic purple belt, metallic purple bracelets, and there is a sculpted texture on the plastic parts of the outfit. The boots are also metallic purple, with green on top. The cape is wired for posing and is made of fabric, which is a nice effect that he has not been previously offered with. The bottom of the cape looks torn that gives it a nice looking effect.

His articulation is the same as He-Man and Skeletor’s, including a ball jointed head, ball jointed torso, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, swivel waist, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.

Included is the Scythe of Doom, a Power Sword with the two half of the blades can be detached and placed in his hands, and a set of interchangeable hand sculpts. The scythe has a long dark green handle with a neon green blade, and is also the same length as the MOTU Classics one had. The Power Sword is a fun accessories that is a new concept for the character, and i’m sure we’ll be learning about it on the new series.

Overall, Scareglow is a great figure and a cool looking exclusive for this years San Diego @ Home experience. Fans are surely going to love this release especially the fun accessories and new design of the character.

One question I get asked alot lately is if I think we’ll see Scareglow offered outside of San Diego Comic-Con? Well, I give you those thoughts in the video above (scroll to the end).
